°American Institute of Indian Studies Dissertation Fellowship. Worked at the Lalbhai Dalpatbhai Institute of Indology, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, February 1988-November 1989. Studied Jain Sanskrit philosophical texts and Prakrit narrative literature with Pofessor Nagin Shah, and lived for four months in Carup, North Gujarat, studying Jain karma texts with a Jain monk and scholar, Muni Jambuvijayaji, and observing Jain religious practice.
