WashU Fantasy and Science Fiction Club Agenda,
Dec. 11, 2003
I. Constitution:
Discussion of the constitutional issues raised at the meeting on Sunday, Dec. 7, and in the email quoted below:
Dear Craig and Peter (cc Rose, Sarah, Ashley, and
Rachel),
Concerning our Sunday meeting: perhaps the Fantasy and
Science Fiction Club could be an umbrella
organization, sharing members with other specialized
clubs, such as your Science Fiction Club. Saturday
meetings (7-9pm, Koenig Lounge) will rotate between
the Fantasy Club (special interest section of the F&SF
Club), the Tolkien Club (ditto), and the Science
Fiction Club (public meeting of your club). You could
have private meetings (that is, publicized by you,
within your group) at your usual time on Sunday (in
Koenig Lounge if you wish; I am sure I can arrange
this). The Movie Night will be an F&SF Club event,
open to all. Each Club will take turns choosing the
movie.
The umbrella Fantasy and Science Fiction Club would
also be responsible for maintaining a website/webring,
and cosponsoring public lectures, etc. with academic
departments (it would also be "faculty friendly" and
"staff friendly," although one goal will be to secure
SGAC recognition and Student Union funding). Each
constituent Club could maintain a separate email list,
and forward F&SF Club announcements to its members as
appropriate. The umbrella organization would post Club
announcements on its website if asked to do so, and
also post fliers for each constituent Club. Other
special interest Clubs (e.g. one or both of the Anime
clubs) could be easily included, if they wish to join,
and still be autonomous if they wish.
Does this decentralized model sound reasonable? If so,
we could write this into our Constitution, and
structure our website according to this scheme. Or do
you have other ideas?
No need to respond to this email right now; I guess we
will have to work this out next semester, but I have
to tell the Student Life reporter something soon. This
is my interpretation of the consensus we reached on
Sunday. If you disagree, I should know before I
respond to the reporter, at the end of this week or
early next.
Good luck on exams and finals!
Sincerely,
Jerome Bauer
II. The Next Meeting:
Eads 116 is available for another meeting, next Thursday, Dec. 18, from 6-7pm.
III. The Return of the King:
Rose suggested a group outing to see "The Return of the King," for anyone still around after finals. How does Saturday, Dec. 20 sound?
